2024 MLB Free Agents: Latest Rumors, Predictions on Corbin Burnes, Alex Bregman, More
The hot stove is scorching.
The MLB landscape already feels reshaped by the offseason, and yet there are still so many moves to be made.
With several impact free agents left on the market, let’s dig into the latest buzz surrounding some of baseball’s best unsigned stars.
Deep Market for Corbin Burnes?
Corbin Burnes is one of the best starting pitchers in baseball. If you don’t want to take our word for it, just scan through his resume and you’ll see all kinds of evidence.
He’s been an All-Star in each of the past four seasons and a top-10 finisher in Cy Young voting during each of the past five. He even captured the award in 2021, and all he’s done in the three years since is pitch to a 3.08 ERA with 624 strikeouts and a 1.04 WHIP over 590 innings.
It’s no wonder, then, to hear Burnes reportedly has “a half-dozen teams showing significant interest,” per jon Holman of the New York Post. There have been rumblings lately of either the Toronto Blue Jays or San Francisco Giants being the favorites to sign Burnes, but clearly his list of landing spots runs beyond that pair.
The Blue Jays could make things interesting by offering Burnes a not insignificant amount of the money they had optimistically earmarked for Juan Soto, but the Giants feel like they can get this done. They’ve already seen new chief decision maker Buster Posey reel in one prominent free agent (Willy Adames, who played with Burnes in Milwaukee), and they should be eager to add an ace to pair with Logan Webb atop their rotation.
