The New York Rangers have officially fired head coach Peter Laviolette, ESPN reports, following a season marked by underperformance and mounting frustrations. The decision, made after an in-depth evaluation of the team’s struggles, comes amid criticism of Laviolette’s coaching strategies and his failure to lead the Rangers to consistent victories.
In a statement released today, Rangers general manager Chris Drury explained the decision. “After a thorough review of the team’s performance, it became clear that a change was necessary,” Drury said. “We believe this roster has the talent to be a Stanley Cup contender, but we have not been able to meet expectations.
