Amid growing tension surrounding the New York Rangers, head coach Peter Laviolette has responded to a brutally honest take from a popular YouTuber, who voiced strong dissatisfaction following the trade of Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken.
The trade, which sent Kakko, a former second overall pick, to Seattle in exchange for defenseman Will Borgen and draft picks, has stirred emotions among Rangers fans and commentators alike. One vocal critic, a well-known YouTuber with a significant following in the hockey community, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the move.
In a recent video, the YouTuber, who has built a reputation for passionate and often candid opinions, referred to the Rangers’ decision as “just beyond disgusted,” questioning the direction of the franchise and the handling of young talent like Kakko.
“Kaapo Kakko has been a bright spot for this team, despite the ups and downs,” the YouTuber said. “Now, they’re just throwing him away for what? A couple of draft picks and a depth defenseman? It’s baffling. The Rangers are heading straight in the wrong direction.”
Laviolette Responds
While many fans are still processing the news, head coach Peter Laviolette was asked to comment on the increasingly critical sentiment surrounding the team, especially following Kakko’s departure. Laviolette, who has been with the Rangers since 2023, addressed the YouTuber’s remarks during a press conference.
“I don’t read much of the noise outside the locker room, but I hear about it,” Laviolette said with a measured tone. “At the end of the day, it’s about what’s best for the team and where we’re going.
