Former University of Alabama offensive lineman Emil Ekiyor Jr. has transitioned from the gridiron to the sidelines, accepting a position as a quality control assistant for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets offensive line. The announcement, made Friday, marks Ekiyor’s first foray into collegiate coaching.

Ekiyor will be working under the tutelage of Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key, a familiar face from his time in Tuscaloosa. Key served as the Crimson Tide’s offensive line coach from 2016-18, overlapping with Ekiyor’s freshman season. This pre-existing relationship adds an element of comfort and familiarity to Ekiyor’s new role.

Ekiyor’s career at Alabama was marked by consistent performance and dedication. Over his five seasons with the Crimson Tide, he appeared in 53 games, earning 40 starts at guard. He became a mainstay on the offensive line, providing crucial protection for Alabama quarterbacks and paving the way for running backs. His senior year in 2022 saw him recognized for his exceptional play, earning a spot on the All-SEC First Team.

Following his collegiate career, Ekiyor pursued his NFL dreams, signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2023. However, his time in Indianapolis was short-lived, as he was waived by the team a few months later.

After his departure from the NFL, Ekiyor embarked on a new chapter, demonstrating his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit. He entered the business world, working as a life health insurance agent. Simultaneously, he dedicated himself to community service, founding “The Chase,” an organization focused on empowering youth and young professionals in both the United States and Sub-Saharan Africa.
