NFL NEWS REPORTS: Russell Wilson declares his plan to play for the Las Vegas Raiders after Tom Brady announced quarterback of choice for the Raiders

NFL NEWS REPORT: Russell Wilson to Join Las Vegas Raiders After Tom Brady’s Quarterback Announcement

The Las Vegas Raiders are making significant moves as they prepare for the 2025 NFL season. After a disappointing 4-13 campaign in 2024, the Raiders are making a strong push to return to playoff contention, starting with the hiring of veteran head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll, who spent 14 successful seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, has now been tasked with leading the Raiders. His first big challenge? Choosing a quarterback to spearhead the offense, and according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Russell Wilson is a strong candidate for the job.

In a surprising turn of events, Wilson, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, declared his intent to play for the Raiders after Tom Brady—who is a part-owner of the team—announced that he had personally selected Wilson as his quarterback of choice for the upcoming season.

A Reunion in the Making?

Wilson’s potential move to Las Vegas brings back memories of his historic Super Bowl win under Carroll in 2014, where the Seattle Seahawks demolished the Denver Broncos 43-8. The pair developed a close relationship over the years, and their bond remains strong. Despite a rough patch for Wilson in recent seasons, including a calf injury that led to a late-season exit with the Steelers in 2024, Rapoport confirmed that the 35-year-old quarterback is still in solid form and could provide the leadership and stability the Raiders need.

“I understand that Russell Wilson wanted to play for the Raiders last year, but it didn’t come to fruition,” Rapoport explained on NFL GameDay. “Now, with Pete Carroll back in the fold and Brady involved in team decisions, it seems very likely that Wilson will reunite with Carroll in Las Vegas.”

The Road Ahead for the Raiders

After finishing at the bottom of the AFC West, the Raiders are hoping a proven leader like Wilson will provide an immediate boost. The division is one of the toughest in the NFL, with perennial playoff contenders like the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Denver Broncos. With Brady’s influence in the front office and Carroll’s expertise as a head coach, the Raiders are hoping to quickly turn things around and contend in a competitive AFC West.

While there’s still plenty of work to be done, the addition of a seasoned quarterback like Wilson could be exactly what the Raiders need to re-establish themselves as Super Bowl contenders. As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on the Raiders’ next moves—starting with Russell Wilson’s potential return to prominence under Pete Carroll’s watch.
