BREAKING: Raiders free agent pitch lands $18 million former first round QB in Las Vegas…

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to pursue a quarterback this offseason, as the team received underwhelming performances from Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew in 2024, continuing a revolving door at the position since Derek Carr’s departure in the 2023 offseason. While general manager John Spytek may consider drafting a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, Raider Ramble’s Jake Brockhoff suggests Pittsburgh Steelers QB Justin Fields as a potential free-agent target for Las Vegas.

Brockhoff noted that Fields started the first six games for Pittsburgh this season, stepping in while Russell Wilson recovered from a calf injury. During that stretch, Fields played his best football, leading the team to a 4-2 record with 10 touchdowns, just two turnovers, and a 65.8% completion rate. He appeared more confident and effective as a passer compared to his time with the Chicago Bears, and is expected to be a more affordable option who could be given another chance as a starter next year.

Despite some issues with accuracy and decision-making throughout his career, Fields showed notable improvement in 2024, making him a compelling option for the Raiders in 2025. New head coach Pete Carroll, who has found success with mobile quarterbacks like Russell Wilson, could help Fields thrive in a similar system. Additionally, offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, known for working with mobile quarterbacks, could also play a key role in Fields’ development.

Fields’ projected market value is relatively modest, with Spotrac estimating a one-year deal worth $6.4 million, though Pro Football Focus suggests it could be around $11 million. With $92 million in cap space available, according to Over the Cap, the Raiders have plenty of room to sign Fields and still address other roster needs.

While Fields may not be an elite quarterback yet, the No. 11 overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft could find success in Kelly’s system, surrounded by key playmakers like All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers and veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.
