Jack Jones Dealt Unfortunate News Following Raiders Release
After failing to trade veteran cornerback Jack Jones, the Las Vegas Raiders decided to waive him on Monday. He started 16 games for the team last season and had a team-high three interceptions. However, he was a favorite of former head coach Antonio Pierce but had no relationship with Pete Carroll. The team decided to go in a different direction and saved $3.4 million in salary cap space. Since he was still on his rookie contract, Jones was subject to waivers. Every team had a chance to pick him up at $3.4 million for next season but the cornerback got some bad news. According to the NFL’s transaction wire on Tuesday, not a single team put in a claim for Jones. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t any teams interested in signing him but it does mean nobody wants to pay him $3.4 million this season. That’s not a steep price for a starting cornerback but Jones’ value must’ve taken a hit. If he plays in 2025, it will likely be closer to the league minimum. That’s a blow for a cornerback who once looked like he’d have a breakout year in 2024. Jones has the talent to be an impact player but he needs to land with the right team.
