Ex-Raiders QB’s Career Is in Question Following Troubling Update
During his Las Vegas Raiders’ tenure, Derek Carr was known for his durability. In nine seasons as a starter, he missed just two games due to injury. However, playing through injuries seems to have caught up with him. In his first season with the New Orleans Saints, he played all 17 games but last season, he missed seven games. It also looks like he’s set to miss a lot more. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Carr is now dealing with a surprise shoulder injury that could potentially lead to season-ending shoulder surgery. This is a massive blow to Carr and the Saints. The team and new head coach Kellen Moore decided to commit to him as the starter this season and if he can’t play, they may need to completely re-think their draft plans. Another important question is what’s next for Carr. He’s 34 now and injuries are catching up to him. If he can’t play this season, the Saints will likely cut him after the year. His status was already in question after a rough 2024 season and if he can’t play, he won’t get a chance to prove that he should stick around. Saints fans think he’s angling to get out. “Derek Carr gave the final middle finger to the Saints , the fans , the City of New Orleans,” one fan wrote. “He was never coming back after they didn’t move him this past offseason. They screwed up and paid him but the Saints organization deserved better.” Some fans understand why Carr might want out. “Let me get this straight, saints fans hate Derek Carr, the city hates him… he tried to make it work and now doesn’t want to play there because yall made it a living hell,” another fan wrote. What remains to be seen is if Carr even wants to play again. He’s been a starter his whole career and likely wouldn’t accept a backup job. If the Saints move on and nobody’s offering a starting job, retirement could be on the table.
