Raiders $54 Million Starter Stirs Speculation With Latest Move

The Las Vegas Raiders have enjoyed a relatively uneventful offseason this year under their new duo of head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek. They did make a trade for quarterback Geno Smith and gave defensive end Maxx Crosby a record-setting deal, but otherwise, they’ve only added cheap players to the roster. While many fans have speculated about what they’ll do with their leftover salary cap space, a situation arose on Wednesday that the Raiders need to address. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that left tackle Kolton Miller was not participating in the team’s voluntary offseason program, which stirred speculation around the league.

Miller has no guaranteed money left on his contract, and a player of his caliber is certainly worth locking down for several years. Raiders fans were adamant that a deal needs to get done before things spiral out of control. “Kolton Miller isn’t holding out yet because it’s considered voluntary. This has the makings of a future holdout or a future trade of Miller coming. Especially since they haven’t even started any extension any talks. This is definitely something to keep a close eye on,” one fan wrote.

“Kolton Miller is one of the league’s best OTs, the #Raiders need to lock him in,” added another. Many also felt that this changed the implications for Las Vegas’ draft plan, and that certain rumors were leaked about Missouri right tackle Armand Membou to get out ahead of this situation. Raiders fans start preparing and setting your expectations on the fact that an OT will likely be taken at 6,” one fan chimed in.

Raiders fans were not the only ones to latch onto this news, as several supporters of the New England Patriots began advocating for their team to trade for Miller. “He’s a Patriot,” one fan said. While nothing is pressing for Las Vegas, it would behoove them to get an extension locked down before the NFL Draft next week. That way, they can go into the three-day event with a clear picture of how to build the team.
