Here’s Where LSU Baseball Ranks After Massive Series Win Over Tennessee
The LSU Tigers just got their biggest win of the season on Sunday, run ruling the Tennessee Volunteers in eight innings to capture the series against the No. 6 Vols. As you can imagine, the Tigers shot up the rankings this week, so we’re going to look at where they’re rank heading into the final three weeks of conference play. D1 Baseball – 2 With their win and many other top-10 teams losing their series this weekend, the Tigers jump from No. 7 to No. 2 in D1 Baseball’s newest rankings. They rank just behind the Texas Longhorns, who seem to have a pretty firm grip on the No. 1 spot as they’ve looked dominant recently.
Baseball America – 2 Just like D1 Baseball, Baseball America has the Tigers ranked No. 2, just behind No. 1 Texas. They only had to jump two spots to do it as Baseball America had them as the No. 4 team in the country last week. The leapfrogged the Clemson Tigers and North Carolina Tar Heels to capture the second spot. RPI – 9 While the Tigers are considered a top-two teams by both major media outlets, the RPI still has them outside of the top-five at No. 9. They jumped three spots from No. 12, but are only the sixth-highest ranked SEC team in the country. The RPI takes a lot of different things into account than just wins and losses; it considers quality of wins, opponent records and other things to produce it’s rankings. With a weaker non-conference schedule, it will be very hard for the Tigers to enter the top-five in the RPI.
