In a significant development in college football recruiting, twin defensive ends Darryll and Mandrell Desir have decommitted from Florida State University (FSU) and committed to the University of Alabama. This decision is a major win for Alabama and a setback for FSU, which had previously secured the twins’ commitments.
The Desir twins, hailing from Miami Norland High School, are highly regarded prospects in the 2025 class. Darryll Desir, standing at 6’5″ and weighing 240 pounds, is ranked as the 44th best defensive end nationally and the 72nd best player in Florida. Mandrell Desir, at 6’4″ and 240 pounds, holds the 56th spot among defensive ends and is the 95th best player in Florida . Their junior season performances were impressive, with Darryll recording 48 tackles, 16 for loss, and seven sacks, while Mandrell contributed 29 tackles, five for loss, and three sacks.
FSU initially secured commitments from the twins in November 2024, shortly after they decommitted from the University of Central Florida . However, the Seminoles’ challenging 2-10 season in 2024, coupled with coaching changes and other decommitments, may have influenced the Desir brothers’ decision to reconsider their options. FSU’s recruiting class faced several setbacks, including the loss of key defensive line prospects and a drop in national rankings .
Alabama’s acquisition of the Desir twins bolsters their defensive line depth and showcases their continued prowess in recruiting top-tier talent. The Crimson Tide’s consistent performance and strong coaching staff likely played a role in attracting the twins. Their addition is expected to have an immediate impact on Alabama’s defense, providing versatility and strength on the edge.
For FSU, the departure of the Desir twins underscores the challenges the program faces in retaining top recruits amid on-field struggles. The Seminoles will need to refocus their recruiting efforts to address gaps on the defensive line and restore confidence among prospective players.
As the 2027 season approaches, the Desir twins’ development at Alabama will be closely watched. Their decision to join the Crimson Tide not only strengthens Alabama’s defense but also serves as a reminder of the competitive nature of college football recruiting and the importance of program stability and success in attracting and retaining elite talent.
