Injury Update: Forward to miss, defender ruled out for season

Collingwood’s Head of High Performance Jarrod Wade has provided an injury and health update ahead of Collingwood’s Round 17 match against Carlton at the MCG on Friday night. 

Available: 

Ash Johnson 

Ash Johnson has completed two full weeks of training as he returns from a fracture to his left fibula. Johnson will be available for limited minutes in the VFL this weekend.  

Brayden Maynard  

Brayden Maynard has returned to full training following his plantar fascia rupture. He is expected to be available to play.  

Unavailable: 

Jakob Ryan 

Jakob Ryan sustained an acute fifth metatarsal fracture in his foot during Saturday’s VFL game against Southport. Ryan will undergo surgery this week and is expected to be sidelined for three months.  

Charlie West 

Charlie West experienced foot soreness after his AFL debut on Saturday night. Scans have confirmed West sustained a minor third metatarsal bone stress reaction. He will be in a moon boot for two weeks and then reassessed for his return-to-play timelines. West is expected to be sidelined for five to six weeks.

Other updates: 

Jordan De Goey 

Jordan De Goey sustained a head knock during today’s training session and will now enter protocols. 

Prior to today’s injury, De Goey was continuing to increase the intensity and volume of his skills training. We will provide an update on his return to play timelines once he exits protocols and returns to full training. 

Lachie Schultz 

Lachie Schultz has had an illness that prevented him from completing his rehab program. Once fully recovered from the illness, he will complete the final stages of his rehab and is expected to return to full training next week.  

  1. Billy Frampton (calf), Harvey Harrison (ACL), Tew Jiath (quad/hip), Fin Macrae (shoulder), Beau McCreery (hamstring) and Reef McInnes (ACL) are all progressing well with their individual rehab programs.
