Eric Martel has finally opened up about his future with 1. FC Koln, addressing lingering questions about how long he intends to stay with the club. However, with his release clause now expired and no formal offers on the table, interest from clubs like AC Florence is still brewing.
Martel’s Commitment with a Caveat
Speaking candidly on July 24, 2025, Martel expressed his affection for the club, though with some reservations. During a discussion at the training camp with FC Sports Director Thomas Kessler, Martel stated, “I feel very at home here. I love playing at this stadium. It brings me joy every day to head to the training grounds in Cologne. I have no desire to leave.”
Despite his enthusiasm, Martel is hesitant to extend his contract beyond 2026 prematurely. “The club wants to extend my contract, but I have decided to wait until the end of the first half of the season. I want to see how things develop here,” he said.
