Trea Turner had an MVP-caliber year in 2025. The Philadelphia Phillies shortstop was coming off an All-Star campaign in 2024, and then followed that up with a batting title in 2025, finishing fifth in NL MVP voting. Turner didn’t get much recognition after the 2025 season from MLB, but at least his work is being acknowledged after the fact.

MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince put together a list of the best players post-BBWAA awards. It recognizes the phenomenal seasons of players around the league who didn’t take home any of the major awards. Turner’s 2025 season fits that bill with ease as the shortstop of that list.

Turner missed out on a lot of play in September due to a hamstring strain. With that being said, it doesn’t take away from how good Turner was over the course of the full season. He played in 141 games and hit .304 with 94 runs, 15 home runs, and 69 RBIs. Turner also swiped 36 bases, the most he’s had since 2018 as a member of the Washington Nationals. Turner also took home the NL batting title, becoming the first Phillies player to do so since Richie Ashburn in 1958.

Turner was a breath of fresh air on both sides of the ball, and was one of the most consistent players on the Phillies’ roster. He may not have been able to accumulate the awards in 2025, but it was one of the best of his career and in the franchise’s history. He wasn’t an All-Star, nor a Gold Glove winner, but Turner still had an exceptional season, and it deserves to be remembered that way as he turns the page to 2026.
