West Ham paying 50% less than Harry Maguire deal for the best defender in the Bundesliga confirms German journo in Konstantinos Mavropanos update![Club eyes 'huge' Maguire swoop, boss thinks Man Utd flop can be a 'hero' amid 'shambolic' season](https://d2x51gyc4ptf2q.cloudfront.net/content/uploads/2023/04/02131648/Harry-Maguire-Leicester-F365.jpg)
West Ham are paying 50% less than the Harry Maguire deal for the best defender in the Bundesliga confirms a German journalist.
Yesterday we stated that West Ham could be on the verge of the biggest upgrade since the Nokia 3210 to iPhone by signing Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos instead of Manchester United outcast Harry Maguire.
Well that has moved one step closer to reality on Saturday afternoon.
David Moyes looks to have been saved from himself – by Tim Steidten – over his determination to sign Maguire from Man United.
And West Ham are paying 50% less than the Maguire deal for the best defender in the Bundesliga confirms a German journalist.
Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg claims a deal is all but done between West Ham and Stuttgart for Mavropanos, who wants to join the Hammers.
And the east Londoners are getting the star, who is in the last two years of his contract, for just £15m with a possible further £2m in add-ons.
“Exclusive news: Total agreement between Stuttgart and West Ham about a permanent deal for Konstantinos Mavropanos is close to being done now.
“Transfer fee of around €20m (£17m) with add-ons included.
“Player wants to join West Ham. Tim Steidten was pushing for the 25 y/o central defender. Last details have to be clarified.”
Five years younger, £15m cheaper – an absolute no brainer for West Ham after Maguire snub
The Greek is five years younger than Maguire and at half the price, this looks like an absolute steal for the Hammers.
Aerially he is a monster in both boxes and he had the most interceptions in the Bundesliga last season.
Maguire’s biggest achievement for Man United last season was making the matchday squads under Erik ten Hag.
West Ham are ramping up their transfer efforts as the transfer window enters the final few weeks.
The Hammers are looking to spend the money earned from selling Declan Rice and after signing James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, David Moyes wants even more.
A move for Harry Maguire seems to be over for now and instead, the Hammers are looking to sign former Arsenal defender, Dinos Mavropanos.
And according to journalist Chris Wheatley, the deal to sign Mavropanos is now done and dusted, with West Ham set to pay around £21.3m all in for the defender.
Adding further weight to the report from Wheatley, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has also confirmed that a medical is now planned for Mavropanos in the next 24-48 hours.
West Ham are also looking to sign Mohammed Kudus from Ajax but as yet, the Dutch side haven’t accepted a bid from the Hammers.
The Hammers take on Chelsea this weekend looking to build on their 1-1 draw at Bournemouth last week.
Mavropanos improves this West Ham side
West Ham fans will be happy to see their club spending money as the window ticks towards closing.
Mavropanos is a fine player and he’s proven himself in Germany ever since he left Arsenal and it’s now a big chance for him to show how good he can be in England.
If the Hammers can get this done and also get the deal for Kudus over the line, then it will have been a good old window overall.
