Leeds want ‘unbelievable’ player that Pablo Hernandez said is capable of scoring ‘beautiful’ goals

Leeds United are reportedly considering a move to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey with the England man said to have had a bust-up with Steve Cooper – and Pablo Hernandez is a fan.Explained: Why Jonjo Shelvey was told to 'stay at home' for Nottingham Forest's defeat to Liverpool | Goal.com Nigeria

Shelvey, 31, only joined Forest in January. He has since played eight times for the Premier League side, and the six-time England man has been missing from the matchday squad for Forest’s two matches.

He has a contract at the City Ground until the summer of 2025. But, TeamTalk say Forest are open to his exit – after he and boss Cooper had fallen out. He has certainly, fallen down the Forest pecking order.

The report claims that Leeds are interested in signing Shelvey – with Forest ready to sell. It is unclear who much Forest will want for him, and it might even be that Leeds make a loan move for the midfielder.Back in 2014, Shelvey was a young but talented Premier League midfielder – turning out for Swansea alongside none other than Leeds icon Hernandez. The Spaniard was impressed, after a win over Villa.

“Jonjo has scored some beautiful goals. His goal against Liverpool, but I think today’s goal was the best in the Premier League season. Unbelievable, very important goal when Villa were in control of the game.”

Leeds need midfielders – but do we need Shelvey? The Whites need to bring in replacements having now lost Tyler Adams, Adam Forshaw, Weston McKennie and Marc Roca this summer. Ethan Ampadu in.

It means Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi have been promoted, and Jamie Shackleton and Lew Bate have been promoted up the pecking order. But surely, Leeds need one or two in. Glen Kamara is a target.

So, Leeds do need numbers. But signing Shelvey would surely be a mistake. A player that is past his best, no longer able to do what Hernandez describes so immaculately. One to watch, hopefully not.

Leeds United’s injury woes have shown no sign of slowing down with Ian Poveda the latest blow to Daniel Farke’s side. The Whites could be without as many as eight first-team players for the clash with Ipswich Town next weekend.

It’s been far from plain sailing for Farke since taking over the reins at Elland Road, given the injury problems and players leaving the club for new pastures. The German head coach was unable to fill the bench in the recent outing against West Bromwich Albion, but remained hopeful there’d be new signings through the door before the end of the window.

Leo Hjelde could return for the trip to Portman Road this weekend, having missed the clash with the Baggies after picking up concussion in training. The new protocols mean he was forced to sit out of the draw at Elland Road on Friday.

Here, LeedsLive provides a rundown on Leeds’ current crop of injured players.

What Farke has said: “Some bad news was Leo Hjelde because he had a concussion in training yesterday after a drill. Because we have the concussion protocols of the league, he will be out until next Monday, so he’s not available for this game.”

What Farke has said: “Yeah suddenly he felt some pain to this morning in his adductors and we scanned him in order to take the risk and this tight little adductor strain and he’ll be out for about 10 days. So missed the game today and also next week.”
