27-year-old now has final shot at Leeds redemption, as he closes in on return from injury – opinion

Junior Firpo has stated that he is on his way back from injury for Leeds United.

Firpo has been out of action for the all of Daniel Farke’s tenure at Elland Road, with the German taking over in July.

The 27-year-old has been out with a knee injury for nearly two months, but his comeback from the international break could be imminent.

Leeds did not sign an outright left-back in the summer, therefore Firpo will have another chance to secure that place.

Firpo has struggled for form and fitness at Leeds since joining from Barcelona in 2021, but when he returns, he will have one last chance to redeem himself.

Firpo is closing down on a return to Leeds and has one more chance to redeem himself.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Firpo was anticipated to leave Leeds in the summer, but a combination of his injury and lack of interest has kept him at the club.

To be fair, he is one of just a few members of last season’s first team squad who hasn’t abandoned the club, and for that he should be commended.

That, however, will only get him so far, and it is now up to Firpo to put in some consistent performances on the pitch and demonstrate why Leeds paid £12 million to recruit him from Barcelona.

Firpo should be too talented for the Championship on paper, but his performances at Leeds have provided little evidence that this would be the case.

Firpo will have less defensive work to accomplish in the second tier, which could favor him given his strengths in going forward.

There is little doubt that this is Firpo’s last chance to prove himself at Leeds, and if he hasn’t done so by January, it will be time to replace him.
