According to The Telegraph, Birmingham City have identified D.C. United manager Wayne Rooney as a possible replacement for John Eustace.
Birmingham City manager Eustace has received excellent praise for his work at St. Andrew’s, and Rangers have been linked with the Blues manager despite their strong start to the season and pressure on Michael Beale.

A prospective successor has surfaced from The Telegraph amid Eustace’s links with Rangers.

According to John Percy, D.C. United manager and Manchester United and England great Wayne Rooney is emerging as a target for the Blues if Eustace leaves. He has been discussed as a potential replacement since his contract expires in December.

Rooney has revealed that the lack of recent interaction regarding his contract status has left him “disappointed and frustrated,” suggesting that he may be looking for a new employment soon.

Rooney, 37, began his managerial career with Derby County. He received significant accolades for his efforts at Pride Park, as he kept the club in the Championship before being relegated the following year. However, the Rams were handicapped by financial concerns, which restricted recruitment and resulted in hefty point reductions.

However, his tenure with D.C. United has not been without incident. There have been some bright spots during his tenure, but his team currently sits ninth out of 15 in the MLS’ Eastern Conference, clinging to a final series play-off position.

Amid his frustration over his expiring contract, it might not be long before Rooney is on the move and given if Eustace was to be tempted away, Birmingham City could be a viable option.

However, given the work Eustace has done at St. Andrew’s, many will hope he stays put to continue leading this new era at Birmingham City.
