Tomas Soucek is expected to sign a new long-term contract with West Ham United after the club’s co-owner, Daniel Kretinsky, intervened to ensure the Irons reached an agreement.

TEAMtalk says that West Ham and Soucek have reached an agreement on the conditions of a contract. The 28-year-old has now accepted the London Stadium team’s four-year contract offer. The Czech Republic international will remain in east London until June 2027.

Soucek had entered the final year of his existing terms agreed when he joined the Hammers in July 2020. The Irons paid Slavia Prague £19m to retain the midfielder following his hugely successful spell on loan. The Hammers also sealed an option to extend his contract to 2024.

Kretinsky intervened to ensure that West Ham gave Soucek a new contract in order to avoid his countrymen leaving. The co-owner of the Irons believed the midfielder deserved to be compensated for his contribution to David Moyes. He also intended to fend off any prospective interest.

Soucek has appeared 158 times in all competitions since joining West Ham on loan in January 2020. He has also contributed 22 goals and nine assists while appearing in 144 games. And Kretinsky believes Soucek will continue to play an important role in West Ham’s future plans.

In the present market, West Ham would value Soucek at £50 million if he did not agree to a new contract. But the news of his new contract should please Moyes, who was missing the Czech star against Luton Town. Soucek was recuperating from a head injury suffered in Brighton.
