Coventry City have revealed that defender Milan Van Ewijk has sustained a serious muscular rupture, dealing further blow to Mark Robins’ team, according to a Coventry Live article.
The Dutch full-back is Coventry’s second serious injury setback in as many weeks, following Ben Sheaf’s injury during the international break, putting additional strain on Mark Robins’ side.
How did he get started?
Van Ewijk has enjoyed a solid start to life in England since joining for a seven-figure sum from Dutch side SC Heerenveen, making eight appearances in all competitions so far this season.
During a recent 3-3 draw at the CBS Arena, the 22-year-old scored his first goal in English football, converting a free-kick against Watford.
What did Mark Robins have to say?
Coventry City’s Ben Sheaf has been out for at least six weeks with a groin injury, but manager Mark Robins has now stated that the full-back will most likely join the list of casualties. He stated…
“It’s not good! It’s not good!” I don’t know how long he’ll be alive because of a severe tear in his quad.”
Who is likely to succeed him?
The Sky Blues have three potential right-back possibilities, but it remains to be seen what Mark Robins is thinking about ahead of Monday’s game.
Summer commitment Tatushiro Sakamoto, who replaced Van Ewijk in Tuesday’s game against Cardiff City, is the favorite to take over the post. Midfielder Josh Eccles has previously played there but is now in midfield due to Ben Sheaf’s injury, while Jay Dasilva could go to the right side although Robins appears to be holding his cards close.
Author’s Opinion
Van Ewijk’s injury, in my opinion, has come at the worst possible time for Mark Robins’ side, especially after Ben Sheaf’s injury.
However, the Sky Blues have reinforcements on the way ahead of a difficult meeting against Darren Moore’s Huddersfield Town.
