49ers launch Leeds United recruitment process ahead of January transfer window

The “hiring process is underway” at Leeds United to find a host of new figures for the recruitment and scouting departments, according to Leeds Live.

According to Leeds Live, a “hiring process is underway” at Leeds United to hire a slew of new figures for the recruitment and scouting departments.

On September 25, the publication claimed on their website that, in addition to a new director of recruitment, the club is looking to hire more scouts to cover France, Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the rest of the UK.

Manager Daniel Farke collaborated with technical director Gretar Steinsson and interim football advisor Nick Hammond to complete business during the summer window, with the latter’s future with the club still unknown, but the Whites are now “keen to bolster the recruitment department with a slew of vacancies.”

The movements are part of a wider reorganization at Elland Road following the 49ers’ takeover from Andrea Radrizzani, and appear to be timed to coincide with the January transfer window.

There are changes being made.

It wasn’t flawless, but the new management emerged from a turbulent summer with a squad that was well supplied despite a large number of inexpensive departures.

Farke was chosen to lead the squad through the chaos, and his decision is now paying off, with the German leading his side on a six-game unbeaten run that has Leeds United in sixth place and in good form.

But the process never ends, and if the Whites are to capitalize on the greatest aspects of the work done in the last few months, they must have the longer-term plan ready by January.

There is clearly an argument to keep Hammond on, which Phil Hay has previously suggested could well be on the cards, given how he, Steinsson and Farke have managed to overcome a difficult summer.

And an overarching director of football to ultimately replace Victor Orta has also been mooted, but with only Willy Gnonto, Georginio Rutter and Darko Gyabi currently at the club from last season’s entire set of signings the new regime is going to need to improve on the Spaniard’s transfer hit-rate.

Early signs are positive with the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Joel Piroe, and Sam Byram proving to be vital pieces in Farkes side, so getting the scouting and recruitment departments solidified should, in theory, help continue in that vein.
