Early West Ham team news v Lincoln: Player now ruled out – Injury Expert
Early West Ham United team news v Lincoln – Injury Expert
West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell will be unavailable for the League Cup clash against Lincoln City, according to Ben Dinnery.
The injury expert shared on Premier Injuries (25 September) that the left-back had suffered a hamstring injury in the Hammers’ Europa League victory over Backa Topola (21 September) in his only appearance of the season so far.
The Hammers take the trip to Sincil Bank to face the League One Imps in the third-round clash in the League Cup on Wednesday (27 September) without Cresswell who is still being assessed by the club.
Blow
While the Irons should beat Lincoln in the early stages of the competition, David Moyes will be disappointed to be without the Englishman.
Cresswell has yet to play in the Premier League for the Hammers this season, with Emerson solidifying himself as the manager’s first-choice in this position. He was named to the Hammers’ first European match but was forced to leave at halftime.
League Cup games, particularly those against lower-league opponents, provide opportunities for periphery players to acquire competitive minutes, but Cresswell will not have this opportunity.
The Scotsman, on the other hand, may use this occasion to give a young Hammer a chance, such as Premier League 2 stalwart Regan Clayton, who made 25 appearances in the tournament last season, scoring twice and assisting three times.
Moyes, on the other hand, may not be in the mood to take a chance. Following their humiliating league defeat to Liverpool on September 24th, this match presented a strong opportunity to rebound.
With only two natural left-backs in the Hammers roster, fans will be anxiously awaiting word on when Cresswell might return.
