Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin ruled out of Aston Villa clash
Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton has been ruled out of Saturday’s home game against Aston Villa.
Calvert-Lewin’s 2022-23 season has been hampered by injuries, limiting him to just 11 Premier League games.
The Englishman suffered a hamstring injury in Everton’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on February 4 and has missed the last two games.
Everton have failed to score consistently this season after being unable to depend on Calvert-Lewin for long stretches of the season.
Only Dwight McNeil, Demarai Gray, and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United have scored more than one Premier League goal this season.
While Dyche will be desperate to welcome Calvert-Lewin back into the fold, he will be unable to call upon the 25-year-old for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Goodison Park.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Dyche said: “I think he [Calvert-Lewin] is building up well. He’s on the grass – he’s not with us [in full training] yet but that will come quite quickly, I think.
“Like I said, with human bodies there is no absolute definite but our intention is to get him as fit as possible so we can hopefully break this spell of ins and outs and ups and downs with injuries.
“That’s what we’re hoping to do, whilst also making sure we have him back as quick as possible because we want all players – not just him – available.”
Nathan Patterson and James Garner recently featured for the Under-21s and the latter could be involved on Saturday.
Dyche, on the other hand, is still anticipated to be without Patterson, who has since experienced a little setback that has prevented him from practicing this week.
Meanwhile, Andros Townsend is still out while recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Dyche has stated that Amadou Onana will be ready to replace him in the starting lineup.
The midfielder was a doubt after suffering an injury against Leeds United last Saturday, but he appears to have recovered in time for the weekend.
Dyche will be aiming for another positive outcome against Villa after winning two of his first three games in charge as Everton look to improve their one-point lead above the drop zone.
