Wests Tigers news: Lee Hagipantelis’ position as club chairman under review

Chaos continues to reign at Concord despite the Wests Tigers having long since entered into their off-season period, with Lee Hagipantelis’ tenure at the club on shaky ground.

The chairman, who was only recently given a vote of confidence with a new deal, is already under pressure as the Tigers attempt to address their decade-long slide into mediocrity.

The Tigers are currently undergoing an extensive review of their operations following the repeated failures and Hagipantelis is in the sights of Tony Andreacchio, who reportedly requested for him to stand down from his position as chairman.

Andreacchio represents the Holman Barnes Group which is one of the major shareholders of the club.

“At the moment, we have an external review on the whole club,” Andreacchio told The Sydney Morning Herald.

“It’s probably an inappropriate time to make any formal or informal comment at the moment. This review is very critical.

“The Holman Barnes Group is one of the major shareholders and are very much behind it. I think any comment doesn’t serve any purpose at the moment. Currently, he is the chairman.”

When pressed for comment on the evolving situation behind the scenes at the Tigers, Hagipantelis was tight-lipped on the possible outcomes in regard to his tenure at the club.

“This review has been commissioned by the Holman Barnes Group and all enquiries concerning the review should be directed to them,” he said.

The Tigers will enter a new era in 2024 with club legend Benji Marshall taking the reins after the departure of Tim Sheens.

Marshall faces an incredibly tough task next year with the club desperately attempting to recover from back-to-back wooden spoons.
