West Ham United transfer news as Anthony Martial move on cards
West Ham are eyeing a deal for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial after registering their interest with the club, with talks at an early stage, according to talkSPORT.
The news outlet shared on their website [12 August] that the Hammers have moved for Martial after agreeing to a £30million fee for Harry Maguire, as they look to improve their forward options before the transfer window closes.
It is shared that Manchester United may struggle to command a high fee for the French international, as his contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the season.
Another solid option
While Martial never hit the heights expected of him when he first arrived at Old Trafford as a 19-year-old. he still presents a solid option as a striker with his movement and attacking instincts likely to provide a different option to the front line at the London Stadium.
His ability on the ball makes him different to current Hammers duo Danny Ings and Michail Antonio, with the first more of a poacher and finisher, and the latter a physically dominant forward who excels more at hold-up play.
If Martial is attainable for a low fee, it could be worth the gamble for a West Ham side who are notoriously stingy with spending multiple large transfer fees in the same window.
Other strikers that have been on West Ham’s radar include Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun [Calciomercato, 10 August], who would be a more expensive option, and Elye Wahi, the young French striker described as ‘the best young striker in Europe’ by the Hammers’ technical director Tim Steidten [teamTALK, 10 August].
