Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno fitness update shared by Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...

Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno has faced a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained last season, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert believes that while progress is being made, he’s still expected to miss the next few games while he recovers completely.

The Spanish defender is still to play a minute of Premier League football this season for Unai Emery’s side

Speaking about his setback, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

“Moreno has a hamstring problem stemming from last season and suffered a setback while rehabbing.

He still appears some way away from returning so will miss a few games.

The physio team will be taking him through progressively higher load and intensity activity – on and off the pitch – and seeing how he responds.

Moreno was a mainstay in the Villa team last season and was among the first names on the team sheet for Emery.

However, this term, Lucas Digne has stepped up to the plate and has done an exceptional job at left-back.

He’s offered something unique in attack for the Birmingham outfit and Emery surely will be delighted with his performances.

It remains to be seen if Moreno is successful at winning his spot back in the team or whether Digne will be the first choice.

In other Aston Villa news, a first-team regular will not return to training for the next few weeks as Matt Law issues a fresh injury blow for Unai Emery.
