Fawbush’s 3k Steeple Debut Lands At No. 3 In Lady Vol History

AZUSA, Calif. – Lady Vol true freshman Tula Fawbush etched her name on Tennessee’s all-time outdoor top 10 list in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, highlighting two nights of productive distance running action for the UT track & field program at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.

Fawbush turned in a lifetime-best performance of 10:27.11 to finish 19th at the meet and secure her spot as the No. 3 performer in Lady Vol history in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. The mark was less than six seconds shy of the UT freshman record set by teammate Kayla Gholar in 2022.

The Buckner, Kentucky, native is one of 14 UT distance runners to compete thus far at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Through Thursday’s action, seven of those student-athletes posted outdoor personal records in their respective events:

  • Carter Knox – Men’s 800m – 1:48.63
  • Jarryn Lowe – Men’s 800m – 1:51.43
  • Brody Chapman – Men’s 3,000m Steeplechase – 8:55.53
  • Summer Schuster – Women’s 5,000m – 16:28.38
  • Msgana Araya – Women’s 5,000m – 16:42.73
  • Haley Loewe – Women’s 5,000m – 17:09.51
  • Tula Fawbush – Women’s 3,000m Steeplechase – 10:27.11
  • Full results from the Bryan Clay Invitational are compiled HERE by Finished Results. The Vols and Lady Vols round out the meet on Friday with a pair of athletes running the men’s and women’s 1,500-meter, respectively.
  • Additionally, Tennessee opens up competition in Gainesville, Florida, on Friday with more than 30 athletes competing at the Tom Jones Memorial. The meet begins at noon ET with the men’s collegiate hammer throw and the women’s collegiate 200-meter dash.
