Tennessee baseball needs to lock in for the final month of the regular season

Tennessee baseball drops another series in SEC play after losing its rubber match to Kentucky. The 8-2 Sunday afternoon loss is Tennessee’s second series loss in conference play.

The Vols have now dropped a series to Texas A&M and Kentucky after a hot start to the season and SEC play, and rising to No. 1 in the country.

Tony Vitello’s squad has shown it has the potential to be one of the best teams in the country again this year and make a run in Omaha, but the Vols have been a bit inconsistent throughout SEC play.

We’re in theWe’re in the final month of the regular season, and Tennessee has seven losses on the year and six conference losses, placing it fourth in the SEC.

Tennessee will unlikely reclaim its SEC title by the end of the regular season as Texas leads the conference with a 16-2 record, but the Vols need to lock in ahead of the final month of the regular season.

If the Vols continue to slip, it could be a rough month with a series against LSU, Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas. That places the Vols against three of the SEC’s top fiSEC’sams in the season’s final month, forcing them to bring their best in every game going forward.

Tennessee’s first LSU next weekend could be very telling of how the rest of Tennessee’s season could go. The Vols and Tigers share a 12-6 conference record; both have seven losses on the year, and LSU has 34 wins while Tennessee has 33 wins.

The Vols and Tigers seem to match up against each other perfectly going into this series; it will just be a matter of which team shows up the most throughout the series.

Tennessee has the pitching to compete with the best in the country, and it will be up to Liam Doyle again to set the tone for the Vols in Baton Rouge.

If Tennessee can lock in for the season’s final month, it’ll all be good because they host the regionals and super-regional rounds in Knoxville. But if the struggles continue, then things could go downhill quickly for the Vols.
