Reporter with top source inside the London Stadium responds to Nayef Aguerd injury rumours
The Nayef Aguerd injury rumours have been cleared up by a reporter with very close links to West Ham co-owner David Sullivan.
West Ham centre-back Nayef Aguerd was set to join his country Morocco for their upcoming fixture against Tanzania, but a reported injury put paid to that.
The 27-year-old has actually really struggled at times for the Hammers this season, and has already been linked with a move back to his former club Rennes.
However, he has shown his quality with the ball at his feet on numerous occasions, and his range of passing has become a huge weapon for us this term. David Moyes is clearly a huge fan of the defender as well, and has started him in every Premier League game that he has been available for this season.
Aguerd actually put in one of his best performances of the season against Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.
So it was a real blow when news emerged yesterday that the Moroccan had suffered an injury setback. However, it seems as though it’s not as bad as first feared…
Nayef Aguerd injury update
Claret and Hugh have cleared things up today regarding the Aguerd injury concerns.
Apparently, he has remained at the London Stadium to undergo tests after suffering a potential concussion during our win over Forest on Sunday.
And it is suggested by C&H that he might still travel out to join up with Morocco later this week.
That sounds like excellent news to me. It’s vital that Aguerd returns to West Ham fully fit, what with his exceptional passing ability, rapid recovery pace and composure in possession. However, that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be looking to improve defensively.
The former Rennes centre-back has made far too many mistakes when playing for West Ham this season, and he urgently has to address his poor positional awareness and regular slips in concentration.
I still think there is a top, top player in there somewhere, and I’m hopeful that he will blossom into one of the very best central defenders in the league.
So with that in mind, the Nayef Aguerd injury update from Claret and Hugh is really good news.
