£50,000-a-week Crystal Palace player will have late fitness test today ahead of Luton clash
The latest reports suggest that Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins could make the match day squad for the Luton match but it will be a last minute call.
That’s according to The Evening Standard.
So, what’s the latest injury update on Crystal Palace player James Tomkins? Let’s take a look…
Tomkins has been missing for the last couple of games for Palace due to injury, but it looks like the veteran defender is now close to a return.
According to The Evening Standard, the medical staff are assessing Tomkins today. The centre-back will have a late fitness test to see if he has as recovered from a month-long calf injury in time to face Luton.
Although defenders Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen are the star centre-backs, it will be good for the Eagles to have the experience of Tomkins back in the match day squad.
The club had a lot of injuries over the last couple of months, but it is now looking like they are very close to having a fully fit squad.
The £50,000-a-week defender’s current contract expires at the end of this season. It is quite likely that he could leave in the summer.
Although his minutes are limited for the Eagles due to him coming to the end of his career, Tomkins is still a great asset to have.
He is a leader and has an abundance of experience. Even if he will not get a lot of game time, it is no doubt crucial for Palace to have players like this in the squad.
With the injury crisis the club had earlier this season, where there was around 10 players out, Roy Hodgson will be over the moon that he now has lots of options to choose from.
The upcoming game against Luton, in which we predicted Hodgson will have his strongest XI of the season starting, is a big match.
Hopefully, we can pick up the three points and build some momentum before a hectic festive period with some tough matches.
