Baker Mayfield becomes a fan favorite everywhere he goes, and this is just another example why.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht was on Mad Dog Sports Radio this week and shared a story about Mayfield, the Bucs’ quarterback, volunteering to welcome a new NFL Draft pick and his family to Tampa Bay.

According to Licht, Mayfield was ecstatic when the Buccaneers drafted a wide receiver in the first round with the 19th overall pick. The Bucs took Emeka Egbuka from Ohio State, and Mayfield immediately asked for the phone number for his new target and when he would be getting to Tampa Bay.

Egbuka left Ohio State with 205 career receptions, more than any other receiver in program history. Last season, he had 81 receptions, 1,011 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

“I don’t think he was anticipating getting any new toys for his offense,” Licht said on the radio.

Egbuka and his family got to Tampa Bay on Friday, the day after he was drafted and while the NFL Draft was still going. On Saturday morning, Mayfield and his wife, Emily, picked up Egbuka and his entire family to take them to brunch and show them around Tampa Bay.

“He didn’t have to do that,” Licht said. “And he probably doesn’t want me even telling anybody that. So, it’s just he does that under the radar without wanting any fanfare for it.”

This will be Mayfield’s third season in Tampa Bay. He’s made the Pro Bowl the last two years and has led the Buccaneers to an NFC South division title both seasons. Mayfield was the first quarterback in Buccaneers history to earn multiple Pro Bowl invites.
