West Ham United transfer news as goodwill claim emerges with Jesse Lingard training at Rush Green

West Ham have brought in Jesse Lingard to train at Rush Green as an act of goodwill after he played for them on loan two seasons ago, according to Jordan Davies.

The Sun journalist reported on Twitter on Monday (14 August) that the Hammers have a chance of signing the 30-year-old, who won the Premier League Player of the Month award back in April 2021 when he was at the London Stadium.

The main reason for him to train is to maintain his sharpness as he looks for a new club this summer.

Via Twitter, Davies wrote, “As per others, Jesse Lingard is training with the WHUFC squad as well as undergoing individual fitness testing. Viewed as an act of good will as he looks for his next club. Small chance of signing, but not completely ruled out.”

Whatever the future holds' - Lingard leaves West Ham door ...

Lingard is a free agent and the Hammers have been awful at getting deals over the line this summer.

They’ve made two signings and Harry Maguire looked like he was going to be the third one but that also does not seem to be materialising as quickly as it should be.

There are doubts about that one happening too and with Lingard being available, it does make sense to go out and sign him, even if he’s a backup option.

He’s already admired greatly by David Moyes who worked with him when he was on loan in 2021/22 and played some of his best football under him.

There aren’t an array of clubs queuing to sign him either so it’s not like he can demand exorbitant wages.

He could still put in a shift off the bench for the Hammers and this is not a signing that too many fans would be against, especially with no transfer fee.
