Saints QB Derek Carr injures shoulder vs. Packers, replaced by Jameis Winston

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr left Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury.

He sustained the injury on a sack in the third quarter and was replaced by backup Jameis Winston. The Saints led 17-0 at the time of his injury before the Packers rallied for an 18-17 win.

After the game, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Carr is believed to have sustained an AC sprain while avoiding more serious injury. Carr went to a local hospital for further evaluation after undergoing X-rays at Lambeau Field, according to the report. A timeline for his return was not yet clear.

Carr suffered the injury when he was driven hard to the turf on his right side on a sack by Rashan Gary.

He eventually walked to the sideline medical tent on his own. After an evaluation in the tent, Carr walked to the Saints’ locker room. The Saints punted on the next play, and Winston replaced him on the next New Orleans possession.

The Saints initially announced that Carr was being evaluated for a shoulder injury before ruling him out in the fourth quarter.
