Tyrick Mitchell injury: Crystal Palace to discover extent of muscle strain as defender assessed
Crystal Palace are set to discover the extent of the hip injury Tyrick Mitchell suffered during Wednesday’s 2-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
Mitchell, the club’s only recognised left-back, was forced off in the 29th minute of the match and is unlikely to feature in Saturday’s early kick-off at home to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old is thought to have picked up a muscle strain and his potential absence would be the latest in a long line of injury setbacks for under-pressure Palace manager Roy Hodgson to contend with.
Hodgson said after the game: “It is Wednesday night, and we play on Saturday. It’s a hip injury — to do with the muscle — and that will be assessed. I’ll know before the weekend, but I’ll be surprised if he is [passed fit].
“We don’t know [the severity] yet. It was an unfortunate injury to a player who is in good form and playing well. We’d be very upset to lose him, but it’s a muscle strain and my relationship with muscle strains at Crystal Palace is not a good one.”
Pressure mounted on Hodgson after Wednesday’s defeat to Bournemouth, which left Palace winless in four matches heading into a run of fixtures against Liverpool, Manchester City, Brighton and Chelsea.
