Magpies’ trio named in All-Australian squad

The final team of 22 will be announced on Thursday night at the AFL Awards Night.  

For the Daicos brothers, 2025 is the third time they’ve individually made the All-Australian squad and the second year they’ve been selected alongside each other.  

Josh was named in the extended squad in 2022 and made the final team in 2023, while Nick has been selected in the All-Australian team for the past two years.  

In his 14th season of AFL football, Elliott has been selected in the extended squad for the first time.  

With a career-best season in front of goals, Elliott has kicked 52 majors, 13 more than his highest season total previously.  

The 33-year-old, who celebrated his 200th game in Round 6, played 23 games this year, averaging 11.9 disposals, 1.9 marks inside-50 and 6.3 score involvements per game.  

Josh, who played predominantly across half-back this season, averaged 27 disposals, 75.4% disposal efficiency and 516.1 metres gained throughout his 23 outings.  

With his dashing speed and a total of 34 disposals, Josh was influential in Collingwood’s one-point victory over Melbourne in the King’s Birthday clash, where he was awarded the Neale Daniher Trophy for his impressive performance. 

Nick, who was elevated to Vice-Captain this year, has been a key pillar of Collingwood’s midfield, playing all 23 games and averaging 30.4 disposals, 10.6 contested possessions and eight score involvements per game

Leading the competition for total disposals with 699, Nick had a career-high 43 touches in Collingwood’s Round 19 game against Fremantle.  

The All-Australian selection panel was asked to select 44 players to recognise the leading players across all parts of the field – forwards, defenders and midfielders/rucks.  

The final team of 22, as per the criteria established in 2007, will be selected as if to play a match.
