Forest Green Rovers are lining up a move for free agent striker Troy Deeney, as per The Real EFL.
Deeney, 35, is a free agent following his release from Championship side Birmingham City.
The experienced striker played in 33 second tier games last season for the Blues scoring seven and assisting one.
He showed despite his age he still has the ability to put in some impressive displays at this level, but he now finds himself a free agent after two seasons at St Andrew’s.
Deeney seems to score goals wherever he goes and it wasn’t too long ago he had a pretty impressive Premier League record scoring ten and assisting two in 27 games for Watford.
Now, still searching for a team, it seems a move to League Two could be an option with Forest Green Rovers targeting an ambitious move.
A statement signing
Deeney may struggle to play week in, week out. But, he will bring quality on the pitch and the right mentality off it.
Forest Green Rovers have just been relegated to League Two and they’ve had a poor start to life back in the fourth tier.
Adding Deeney to their ranks may not solve all their problems, but his goals could be crucial to them having a solid campaign.
Experience can’t be bought and on a free transfer Deeney brings bagfuls. He knows the game like the back of his hand and if he hits the ground running there is every chance he finds League Two a breeze.
