Pitt’s Cal Adomitis Returns to Bengals
Pittsburgh — Cal Adomitis, a former Pitt Panthers long snapper, entered the 2024 offseason as a restricted free agent, but the Cincinnati Bengals wanted to ensure he did not go.
According to ESPN’s Ben Baby, the Bengals have tendered Adomitis, a reliable long snapper for the Panthers for several seasons, thus ensuring he will stay with the team that signed him as a rookie.
When an NFL franchise tenders a player, it gives him two options: sign with the team that tendered him or sign with another team; however, in order to sign the tendered player, another organization must give up a significant draft selection to the team that tendered him. This almost guarantees that the player will stay with his current team.
Adomitis had a remarkable career at Pitt, earning first-team All-American honors from the American Football Coaches Association in 2021 and the Patrick Mannelly Award for outstanding senior long snapper in the FBS that same year. Since 2017, he has played in and started all 64 of his professional games.
He signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent and spent the first week on the practice squad. When his club lost their main long snapper to injury and lost a game due in part to using a backup tight end as an emergency long snapper, Adomitis was promoted to the active roster and given a starting role, which he has retained ever since.
