The talent-rich state of Georgia produced three five-star prospects during the 2024 recruiting cycle per 247Sports’ player rankings and more than two-dozen inside the final Top247. The University of Georgia, this cycle’s recruiting national champion, had a wealth of local talent to choose from this cycle and was able to sign several of the state’s top players, but the Bulldogs weren’t the only elite programs to nab a few top recruits.
Georgia, Florida and Texas annually produce much of the talent pool nationally when it comes to impact players and future NFL Draft selections and the 2024 cycle was no different. In the Peach State alone, 41 players were rated four-stars or higher by 247Sports and all landed at major programs.
Looking ahead to next year’s class, the state of Georgia currently flexes one five-star prospect and 33 of the four-star variety. Most will sign during the early period next December and only nine of those aforementioned blue-chippers have announced verbal commitments.
Here’s a look at the state’s top 15 players this cycle and where they signed:
The word: Dylan Raiola had been committed to Georgia since May before changing his mind and signing with Nebraska in December as the highest-rated get for the Huskers in the modern recruiting era. Given Nebraska’s need at the position, there’s a chance Raiola could start as a true freshman.
“I know they want to win right now,” Raiola said about Nebraska, via Husker247. “Just from Coach Rhule being the head coach he wants to do it the right way. He’s not going to cut corners. He’s going to build it from the ground up. I have a great relationship with him and I feel comfortable talking to him about things.”
The word: Last summer, Sammy Brown picked Clemson over Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Tennessee. The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder from Jefferson (Ga.) chose the Tigers over his home-state Bulldogs after an official visit prior to the start of his senior season at Jefferson and proceeded to shut down his recruitment. He’s an elite signee by any measure, and he represents a particularly big win for Clemson in the post-Brent Venables era — especially since Venables, the Tigers’ former defensive coordinator, was recruiting Brown to Oklahoma.
The word: KJ Bolden flipped his commitment from Florida State to Georgia on the first day of the early signing period. He committed to the Seminoles in August before Georgia pushed the pedal to the floor late and earned a flip.
“Coach Kirby, he’s just different. He’s really different, plain and simple,” Bolden told Dawgs247. “He’s different from all the other coaches. He likes to build relationships. He can be your friend, your buddy, your brother, and your coach at the same time. He’s really a mentor.”
The word: Eddrick Houston was one of several five-stars the Buckeyes landed this cycle, along with Jeremiah Smith and a few notable high-end transfers. Per Bucknuts, the 6-foot-3 and 255-pound Houston had a list of offers that in addition to Ohio State included Georgia, Clemson, USC and Alabama. Houston’s many other scholarship offers include Florida, Florida State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame, South Carolina and the list goes on.
