Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as we bring you all the day’s business on the final day of mid-term trading as Norwich City boss has cheeky swipe at Sky Blues

Coventry City go into transfer deadline day with a few questions yet to be answered, particularly where the club’s outgoing business is concerned. Sky Blues manager Mark Robins insisted on Tuesday night that he doesn’t expect to make any more signings before tonight’s 11pm deadline, while some fans remain convinced he has a surprise up his sleeve.

City have made one high profile addition this month with the arrival of Victor Torp for £2.1million from Norwegian side Sarpsborg, while missing out on an ambitious move for Argentine winger Benjamin Rollheiser, who opted to join Benfica instead, and young Aldershot midfielder Josh Stokes, who has signed for last night’s opponents Bristol City.

Given the £6million up front bid reported for Rollheiser, one would assume that Doug King is prepared to splash the cash if the right deal is there to be done, although that appears to be slightly at odds with Robins’ explanation for departures, with the City boss saying that any exits will be a way of “reducing outgoings and making sure the overheads for us are manageable. I say to you all the time that we have to make sure we are not overspending.”

As for how many departures we can expect, he revealed that one, two and possibly even three ‘might’ be on their way out. The first has happened, with stalwart defender Kyle McFadzean being released by mutual consent and joining fellow Championship club Blackburn Rovers on a short term contract until the end of the season.

Liam Kelly and Simon Moore fall into the same category as McFadzean, in that they have slipped out of the reckoning and appear surplus to requirements. Ben Sheaf’s injury could change things for Kelly, however, and if the midfielder is out for any length of time then Robins may well want to keep his club captain in the camp.

Whatever happens, stay tuned to our coverage throughout the day and into the evening as Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner brings you all the developments as they happen, right to 11pm.

Another City old boy joins Blackburn

Blackburn have announced the signing of John Fleck on a free transfer from Sheffield United.

The 32-year-old made over 250 league appearances for the Blades after signing for the club in 2016, having made 182 appearances for the Sky Blues between 2012-2016, scoring eight times.

He joins former City players Dom Hyam, Kyle McFadzean and Yasin Ayari at Ewood Park.

Done deal

Coventry City have signed exciting forward Ephron Mason-Clark from promotion chasing Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee, but fans won’t see him in action until next season.

The Sky Blues have been chasing the 24-year-old – who is predominantly a left winger but who can also play on the right or as a striker – for a number of weeks and finally managed to get their man on deadline day. However, CoventryLive understands that City were forced to agree to loan the player back to the selling club for the rest of the season in order to get the deal over the line.

Mason-Clark has scored an impressive 15 goals – ten in the league to help fire the Posh to third in the table – and eight assists in all competitions, taking in 36 games to date this season. After getting the green light for the deal his morning, the Lambeth-born player travelled to Coventry for his medical before eventually putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year deal, taking the player to the summer of 2028.
