The Detroit Tigers have signed Colt Keith to a six-year guaranteed major league contract, an unprecedented move for the organization. Keith will receive a guaranteed $28,642,500 over six years, with additional options including a $2M signing bonus, club options, and salary escalators.

Keith, likely to start the 2024 season, is almost certain to play second or third base, depending on the organization’s preference and need.

Tigers selected 22-year-old Keith in 2020 amateur player draft, ranked No. 28 overall prospect by Baseball America and No. 22 by MLB Pipeline. He slashed.306/.380/.552 in 577 plate appearances.

Detroit Tigers announce Colt contract, showcasing faith in organization’s commitment to acquiring, developing, and retaining young talent, with Harris and Keith expressing excitement.

Keith, a top prospect for the Tigers, has signed a long-term contract with the organization. He is excited about the opportunity to play for the team and contribute to winning a World Series Championship for Tigers fans. Keith will be under club control until 2032.

Keith, who signed for a $500,000 bonus, has secured his future with the Tigers’ organization. He played 35 games in Toledo, 21 games at third base, and served as the DH for a dozen games. Keith’s trend towards second base may be due to arm soreness from the 2023 season.

Detroit Tigers sign Keith to the club’s 40-man roster, marking the fourth-largest MLB deal for a prospect not yet making their major league debut, despite the club’s recent lack of young signings.
