Rangers’ Matt Rempe finally speaks about dirty hit on Devils defenseman

Rangers forward Matt Rempe claims he “made a mistake” when he elbowed Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler in the jaw on March 11 –– a hit that gave Siegenthaler a concussion and landed Rempe a four-game suspension.

Speaking after Wednesday’s practice for the first time since his suspension was lifted, New York’s enforcer opened up about the hit and what he’s learned since getting sidelined.

Rangers have paid tribute to supporter Thomas McAllister, 25, who died after the club’s Europa League last-16 clash with Benfica in Lisbon on Thursday night.

The circumstances of his death are not yet known.

The club said in a statement: “It is with profound sadness Rangers FC has been made aware supporter Thomas McAllister has passed away in Lisbon following last night’s UEFA Europa League tie with Benfica.

“The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with Thomas’ family and friends, and we will remain in constant contact with both the Portuguese and British authorities over this tragic incident.”

Rangers CEO James Bisgrove said: “On behalf of the club, I want to pass on my sincere condolences to Thomas’ loved ones, family and his friends.

“This news has hit everyone at the club extremely hard, as I am sure it will for all of our supporters. Nobody should ever go to a football match and not return home.

“The club stands ready to assist Thomas’ family in whatever way we can in the coming days and weeks.”

Affectionately known as Tam, Dad Thomas was from the Drumchapel area of Glasgow, and tributes have been pouring in on social media following the sad news.

Abbi Sinclair said: “Heartbreaking cannot believe it. RIP Tam you’ll be so missed by everyone.” Andy McInnes said: “Rest in peace Tam. Another Drum boy taken too soon.” Chris Forbes said: “RIP Thomas McAllister. Such horrible news.”
