Ilya Samsonov ‘Looks Like He’ll Be Fine’ After Leaving Maple Leafs’ Game Against Oilers Late in Third Period
Ilya Samsonov continues to experience close encounters with injury while tending the Toronto Maple Leafs net.
The goaltender appeared to be injured when he stayed on the ice in agony after allowing a goal by Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl that cut Toronto’s lead to 5-3 with 3:39 to go in regulation time.
Martin Jones, Toronto’s third goaltender on the roster. came on in place of Samsonov to finish the game and made five saves to help the Leafs preserve the 6-3 victory.
The good news for Toronto is it appears Samsonov is ok. “He got injured. And it’s not anything near what it appeared or what I thought it might have done,” Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said. “I’m not going to give you too many details right now, but it looks like he’ll be fine and won’t miss any time.”
