With G-Day officially in the books, here are a few things that the Bulldogs’ scrimmage revealed about this year’s team
The Georgia Bulldogs completed their annual inter-squad scrimmage this Saturday as the red team tied with the black team by a score of 20-20.
Points were hard to come by in this year’s game simply because of the embarrassment of riches that the Bulldogs featured on the defensive side of the ball. Numerous players young and old stood out and made big plays. Signifying that the Bulldogs’ defense should be dominant as usual this season.
Georgia added a handful of fresh faces to their roster this offseason by way of the transfer portal and those additions made sure their presence was known on Saturday. Offensive weapons such as Trevor Etienne, Michael Jackson, and Colbie Young all shined. While defensive additions such as Jake Pope and Xavier McLeod were seemingly flying around all day. Kirby Smart stated in the past that he doesn’t utilize the transfer portal much. But he seems to have hit multiple home runs this year.
For the past three seasons, Georgia’s offensive focal point has seemingly been tight end Brock Bowers. However, with Bowers off the NFL Draft, it appears that the offensive focus has shifted more to the Bulldogs’ highly talented receiver room. Look for the Dawgs pass-catchers to get more looks this season than they ever have before.
Beck’s showing on Saturday wasn’t exactly perfect, but perfection is not what you expect a quarterback to display during a spring scrimmage. What Beck did display, however, was a willingness to attempt tight window throws and take deep shots. Displaying that the Georgia quarterback has even more confidence in his abilities than he did last season.
The Bulldogs will continue to prepare for their 2024 season and will not return to action in Sanford stadium until their home opener against Tennessee Tech on September 7th.
