As NFL Training camp is getting closer, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to come back much stronger after a very embarrassing end to their 2023 season. They made one of the biggest splashes in free agency when they acquired star running back Saquon Barkley from their arch rival New York Giants. While Saquon has been loving his new team so far, it was reported this week that his father was arrested.

Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley Father Arrested

Police reportedly arrested Saquon Barkley’s father earlier this month. According to a report from FOX News, police had pulled over Barkely’s father Alibay by a traffic stop. When he was pulled over, the police reportedly found a loaded gun in the car.

“A law enforcement source tells me that Alibay Barkley, the father of former #Giants and current #Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was pulled over in the Bronx for a traffic stop and was found with a gun. He could be charged with criminal possession of a weapon,” Thompson reported late Thursday night.

“I’m told this happened yesterday at the corner of East 140th and 3rd Ave in Mott Haven. Sources say the gun was loaded,” he added later.

While there is not much more information on the matter right now, as the situation develops, there will be more information to come out. Saquon himself has been vocal about his father’s struggles way back in an interview from 2018. Barkley has noted that his father has been a very special person in his life, and his father has been direct and honest with him about his struggles throughout his own life:

“My dad has been through a lot. He made that a big point when I was young: Don’t make the same mistakes he did in life,” Saquon told Lancaster Online.

“You have to respect him as a man. A lot of people can’t look their kids in the face and tell them the decisions that they made were awful and the mistakes they made were bad. That helped me.”

As Saquon gets ready with his new team, this may be an off the field distraction as training camp gets under way.
