LeBron James Fires At Critics Who Think He Isn’t Interested In Winning An NBA Championship Anymore

LeBron James sent a message on social media after his friend Cuffs The Legend posted on X remarking about how funny he finds the recent narrative that James isn’t focused on winning anymore. The Lakers’ forward agreed with Cuffs, saying that nobody knows what they’re talking about.

Cuffs The Legend: “People saying LeBron doesn’t wanna win anymore have no idea what they’re talking about lol.”

LeBron James: “Do they ever know what they’re talking about?!”

The genesis behind the thinking that LeBron is no longer interested in winning is unclear. Most assume this is the case because he’s not expected to leave the Lakers this summer to form a new superteam, and multiple reports have suggested that LeBron is willing to take a step back from trying to control aspects of the team like their coach and personnel.

James even explicitly told the Lakers to build with Anthony Davis in mind given LeBron doesn’t have much time left in the NBA. His desire to play alongside his son, Bronny James, and the Lakers reported interest in drafting him has made more people believe that the 20-time All-Star is no longer interested in ensuring the Lakers build a contender, but wants the team to acquire his son.

LeBron James Is At The End Of His Career

LeBron James is still producing at an All-NBA level despite wrapping up his 20th season. He was noticeably a tier below the previous versions of LeBron as his age is becoming a fact he can’t fight anymore. James is no longer the superstar that can single-handedly win you games and playoff matchups, something we last saw in 2020.

Three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Lou Williams believes James will be retiring at the end of the 2024-25 season.

“I’m buying it because the Lakers probably will draft Bronny with one of their three picks. That’s gonna feed the beast where he wanted to play with his son. His body is already kind of aching and wearing down.”

“I think he can play another two years, but he’s also said he’s looking at this from year to year. I’ve seen this movie before. I played with Kobe in this last year. He started that season off dead serious.”

“He was prepared to compete, realized that his body wasn’t gonna give him everything that he wanted, and it turned into a farewell tour. You know what your body is gonna give you and whatnot. Like we were 10 to 12 games in before it turned into a farewell tour for Kobe. It didn’t start the season that way.”

Williams has made a great point about everyone keeping their eyes out for updates on LeBron retiring. He openly discussed the idea at the end of the 2022-23 season but elected to continue playing.

With a $51 million player option this summer, James could become a free agent and solidify his NBA future for a few more seasons. Nonetheless, we’re in the endgame of James’ legendary career.
