For whatever reason, Florida State is unable to consistently recruit elite players at this position. In a recruiting cycle where elite linebackers are only available in the Southeast, FSU only has one from the region on the roster.
To be fair, the pledge is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports Composite, but FSU needs to bolster its quality at this position.

FSU football: Top 10 most important wins in Mike Norvell era
Given his start in Tallahassee, it’s incredible that Mike Norvell’s coaching record with FSU football is nearly comparable to his time at Memphis after four seasons. Norvell concluded his career at Memphis with a 38-15 overall record and 24-8 in the AAC, including a 12-1, 8-0 record in his fourth and final year. During the pandemic-hit 2020 season, he had the polar opposite experience at Florida State. Norvell went 3-6 in his first season and began the second season 0-4 before going 5-3 in the final eight games.
Those games provided FSU football supporters reason to be optimistic about the 2022 season, with expectations of making a bowl game and winning at least 7-8 games. FSU exceeded those expectations, but not without overcoming some challenges. In retrospect, I look back on some games and understand that things could have gone differently, and Mike Norvell may not have had the opportunity to reap the fruits of his labor. Needless to say, FSU won those games and has risen to where they have been for most of our lives: among the best teams in college football. While I predict many more wins in the Mike Norvell era, here are my top ten most important to date.
