Taijuan Walker’s right index finger is inflamed
Status: 15-day injury list.
Walker’s right index finger is inflamed, with a blister on the interior (right). RHP Michael Mercado was called up to fill his spot on the 26-man roster.
Walker will have a bullpen session in Minnesota. He will then conduct live batting practice when the Phillies return home next weekend. (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on July 21).

Spencer Turnbull (right lat strain).
Status: 15-day injury list, out for 6-8 weeks.
Turnbull will be sidelined until August with a right lat strain. He was removed from his start against the Detroit Tigers after three innings on June 26 due to right shoulder pain. He told reporters in Detroit after the game that he was confident in his condition, but testing revealed a more serious injury.
Turnbull is presently completing his throwing program in Clearwater, Florida. He could start throwing bullpen sessions before the end of next week.

The Phillies will aim to stretch him out as a starter as he draws closer to returning, but he might return as a multi-inning reliever if a bullpen necessity develops or the Phillies run out of time to properly stretch him out. “If there’s a need before he’s fully spread out, we could pull the plug and run.” (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on July 21).
Luis Ortiz underwent Tommy John surgery.
Status: 15-day injury list.
On July 11, Ortiz underwent a successful Tommy John surgery. (Updated by Destiny Lugardo on July 12).

Michael Rucker (right-hand arterial vasospasm).
Status: 60-day injury list.
Rucker threw a bullpen session on May 14 and is scheduled to throw another on May 17.
Rucker was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day disabled list on June 3.
Rucker was at Citizens Bank Park on July 11 to throw a bullpen session. If all goes well, he’ll make a rehab appearance either Single-A Jersey Shore or Triple-A Lehigh Valley on July 13th. (Updated by Tim Kelly on July 11)

Andrew Painter (tommy John surgery)
Status: Minor League 60-day disabled list.
The Phillies’ top minor league prospect underwent Tommy John surgery on July 25, 2023.
Painter throws 25-pitch bullpens every Tuesday and Friday. He’s simply throwing fastballs and changeups right now. Thomson would not rule out the 21-year-old pitching in simulated games – a controlled environment — before the end of the year. However, he does not expect to pitch for an affiliate in 2024. (Updated by Tim Kelly on June 29.)

Dylan Covey (right shoulder strain).
Status: 60-day injury list.
Covey is still suffering with a shoulder issue and has backed off from throwing. He slightly injured his hamstring while doing some conditioning work. He was in Philadelphia seeing team doctors on May 8, but was scheduled to return to Clearwater on May 10.
Covey was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day disabled list on June 1. (Updated by Bailey Digh on June 4).
