Olympics.com selects ten athletes, five men and five women, who could challenge the favourites and break through to win their first major international medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary (19-27 August).

The 2023 World Athletics Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19 to August 27, and will feature track and field stars such as Noah Lyles, Erriyon Knighton, Mondo Duplantis, Karsten Warholm, Yulimar Rojas, Faith Kipyegon, Sha’Carri Richardson, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

However, there is also a large group of younger sportsmen eager to make their name. Some of them have previous World Championships experience, having competed and nearly won a medal at last year’s event in Eugene, Oregon. Olympics.com has identified ten of them, five men and five women, to keep an eye on in Budapest.

This list excludes athletes who have previously won medals at the senior World Championships or the Olympic Games. Athletes are arranged alphabetically by last name.
