LOTUS 72D LUCKY STRIKE UPDATE
Sharing a picture of my progress on the big scale Tamiya build.

I’m excited to share an update on my Tamiya 1/12 scale Lotus 72D Lucky Strike build! This project has been a labor of love, and I’m making great progress.

I started by meticulously assembling the chassis, ensuring all the parts fit perfectly. The details in this kit are incredible; every component, from the suspension to the engine, reflects the original car’s engineering. I’ve spent a lot of time painting and detailing the engine bay, using a mix of metallic and gloss finishes to replicate the real thing.

The iconic black and gold livery of the Lucky Strike version is next on my list. I’ve carefully masked off sections for the paint, using Tamiya’s spray paints for a smooth, professional finish. The decals will come later, and I’m looking forward to adding those final touches that bring the model to life.

One challenge has been replicating the intricate cockpit details. I’ve used fine brushes to paint the dashboard and instrument cluster, adding tiny decals for realism. It’s a slow process, but I’m enjoying every minute of it.

I also focused on the wheels, carefully weathering them to mimic the look of racing tires after a grueling race. Each detail adds to the overall authenticity of the model.

As I progress, I’m learning a lot about both the car’s history and model building techniques. I can’t wait to share more updates as I move towards completion. This build is not just about the end result; it’s a journey through the engineering marvel that is the Lotus 72D. Stay tuned for more updates!
