KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – If cornhole is your sport, Kearney was the place to be. The Nebraska Regional Cornhole Tournament took place at American Legion Post 52 on Saturday.
From advanced to intermediate, all could participate as 39 teams from across Nebraska and Kansas came to central Nebraska to play a game they love.
“I love the togetherness you know everybody’s all for one you know,” said Riley Lavene, Lone Tree Throwers. “It’s everybody together, you know it’s not just separate groups. Everybody kind of comes together in the community.”
Josh Fousek shares what makes cornhole special.
“We’ve got young kids seven years old, all the way up to probably people in their 70s throwing,” said Josh Fousek, Regional ACL Director. “So anybody can play, it’s a good time and it’s like a family environment.”
Some people start playing and have a natural talent for placing the beanbag on the board.
“I just seen a tournament, a local tournament come up in North Platte and was like I got a buddy and we just started playing, this is probably back in 2017,” said Randy Orvin, Central Nebraska Cornhole. “We took second place in a tournament first time I played and was like alright, this is pretty fun; we’re just going to keep going with it.”
Right after that, Orvin knew he loves playing cornhole. Adding, everyone is great to play with and skill level doesn’t matter. Just go out, throw your bags and have a good time.
